The History of Schuylkill County
Schuylkill County was formed from parts of Berks, Northampton, and Northumberland counties arising from the need to allow easier and more effective access to the judicial process. Travel was a much greater hardship in 1811 than anything we face today. By petition to the General Assembly inhabitants expressed their concerns over the great hardships of being so remote from the seat of justice and public offices.
